The scene in detail

Paradise Tanager in the Bromeliad Wheel moves between narrow colour bands and broad leaf curls. Preserve the air gap beneath the raised foot, then let the bromeliad's red centre and the bird's lime head remain distinct focal areas.

Cloth and thread choices

  • Suggested ground: deep violet-slate linen
  • 22 suggested DMC shades, using stranded cotton floss
  • Bring your own needles and a hoop or frame
  • Test the chosen transfer method and thread colours on your cloth

Canvas dimensions and printing

Artwork canvas: 232 x 300 mm, portrait, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.

Stitch direction and shading

The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include divided turning long-and-short, fine split, turning long-and-short.

Is the red plant centre a single flat circle?

The inner cup sits within the leaf wheel, with a separate red-and-orange bract spike. The curved leaf bands have their own boundaries around those warmer areas.
