Follow a clematis vine from open flower to curling seed head, with a blue tit suspended beneath it. The digital embroidery pattern gives the bird's yellow body and blue wing separate shaded fields.

The stitch recipes

The guide maps 14 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include stem, selective couching, directional long-and-short.

A closer look at the motif

Blue Tit Beneath the Turning Clematis follows a vine as it turns around a hanging bird. Work the blue feather groups beside yellow body shading, then change pace for violet petals and the fine curves of the seed head.

Is the clematis all in flower?

No. An open flower, a drooping closed flower and seed filaments show different stages of the plant, each with its own surface to stitch.

Before tracing the pattern

Artwork canvas: 232 x 300 mm, portrait, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.

Linen and colour planning

Suggested fabric: deep muted forest-green linen. The palette proposes 21 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.

Download format and licence

Digital files only. No fabric, thread, tools or finished embroidery is supplied. Colour references and lifestyle mockups show design and presentation ideas. For personal, non-commercial use. Do not share, redistribute or resell the digital files.
