A branch changes long before it bears fruit. Closed buds gather around a bend, a blossom turns away, and a leaf opens to show its pale reverse. The Orchard Between Stitches follows these small changes through 80 botanical designs for personal hand embroidery and textile study.

Each design appears as an A botanical drawing and a matching B illustrated embroidery interpretation. Compare the same branch through contour, colour, thread direction and surface texture. Twelve complete essays draw attention to the attachments, folds and intervals that give each study its character.

Two volumes, one complete orchard collection

  • Volume I: Buds Blossoms and Weather. Studies 01-40, 112 pages. Closed buds, the first open flowers, branches in bloom and weather at the petal edge.
  • Volume II: Leaves Fruit and the Last Branches. Studies 41-80, 112 pages. Unfolding leaves, small fruits, floral remains and the surfaces of old wood.
  • 224 pages in total: 80 drawings, 80 embroidery interpretations, twelve essays and eight chapter introductions.
  • Opening notes, guidance for using the A+B pairs, species and study indices, palette and fabric notes, and pages for recording your own project decisions.

Botanical details worth carrying into thread

The collection includes plum, pear, almond, apple, quince, cherry, apricot, olive, medlar, pomegranate and damson. A folded petal, a short empty spur or a partly hidden scar can matter as much as the largest flower. The illustrations retain these relationships, including the open ground between independent fragments.

Study the branch before choosing stitches. Use A to read its silhouette and connections; use B to consider colour balance and thread direction. Make a small sample at your intended scale so that fine stalks, narrow gaps and turned edges remain clear on your own fabric.

What this purchase supplies

You receive Volume I and Volume II as digital PDF publications. No physical book, finished embroidery, fabric or thread is shipped. The B pages are illustrated embroidery interpretations, not photographs of supplied stitched pieces. Individual stitch sequences, numbered thread charts, measured transfer templates and machine embroidery files are not included. Separate PNG or JPG export packs are not part of this product.

For a personal embroidery project, make a working transfer from the essential outlines of A and keep the reference beside you. Print or resize proportionally, then check the smallest attachments at your chosen scale.

Personal use licence

View and print the files for your own personal, noncommercial practice. Do not share, resell, redistribute, upload or reproduce the files for sale. Contact Stitchesly before using the content commercially.
