The Meadow in Thread is a two-volume botanical drawing and embroidery reference collection with 80 paired studies, 160 study images and 264 PDF pages. A stem bends, a pod opens and a blade folds. Each study follows a particular botanical relationship from graphite-and-ink drawing to its corresponding textile interpretation.

The collection moves from flowers and seed stories into grasses, roots, stone, dry heads and the architecture of the meadow. Its quiet page rhythm gives both the occupied surfaces and the open ground room to be studied closely.

What Is Included

  • Volume I: Flowers and Seed Stories, Studies 01-40, 132 PDF pages.
  • Volume II: Grasses and Meadow Architecture, Studies 41-80, 132 PDF pages.
  • 80 A/B pairs: 80 botanical drawings and 80 corresponding textile interpretations.
  • Eight chapter essays and 80 individual reading notes.
  • Study indexes, structure and surface indexes, a design-notebook guide and small adaptation exercises.
  • Two English-language PDF books with front and back covers. The 264-page total includes covers and endpapers.

Volume I: Flowers and Seed Stories

The first forty studies follow unequal stem rhythms, open branching canopies, seed release and flowers seen from changing positions. Scabious, wild carrot, fennel, milkweed, clematis, poppy, cornflower and mallow introduce broad leaf planes, fine supports, compact heads and delicate filaments.

A fallen petal, an empty calyx or the gap between two independent plants gives the eye a precise place to return. Four essays connect these events through stems and open space, botanical branching, dispersal and the turning surfaces of flowers.

Volume II: Grasses and Meadow Architecture

The second forty studies begin with folded blades and hanging grass units, then move into exposed roots, stone edges, mineral crevices and late-season structures. The final chapter brings separate plants into arches, crescents, towers and unfinished meadow crowns.

A rigid capsule axis can meet a flexible grass. A contracted wild-carrot head can hold an open centre. Yarrow and fennel cross once while keeping their lower supports separate. These small relationships make the larger arrangements readable.

From Botanical Drawing to Textile Surface

A establishes the contour, attachments, folds and open intervals. B presents the corresponding composition through colour, directional marks and contrasting textile surfaces. The paired layout lets you compare a shell lip with its finer silk, a flower cup with its rim, or a broad leaf with the stem passing behind it.

The essays introduce the relationships shared by ten studies. Individual reading notes then identify a specific surface or junction and suggest a focused observation or small material experiment.
