The Luminous Botanical Cabinet is a two-volume digital art book pairing 80 botanical drawings with 80 embroidered textile interpretations. Its 200 pages follow water plants, rain-altered surfaces and night flowers through contour, folded anatomy, thread direction and the space around each form.

A lotus leaf becomes a broad plane of radiating veins. A broken reed reflection remains lighter than the plant above it. A night flower opens around a hollow centre. These specific structures give each Study its character and offer a starting point for your own textile research.

What Is Included

  • Volume I: Water, Leaves & Rain, 100-page PDF, Studies 01-40.
  • Volume II: Night Flowers & Pale Thread, 100-page PDF, Studies 41-80.
  • 80 paired studies: 80 A drawings and 80 B textile interpretations.
  • 160 full-page study artworks on separate, consecutive pages.
  • Eight essays, four in each volume, introducing the studies in groups of ten.
  • Introductions, notes on reading the drawings and textiles, Study indexes and studio notes.
  • Two English-language PDFs with front and back covers, 200 pages in total.

Volume I: Water, Leaves & Rain

The first volume begins with shoreline iris, sedge, reed and water mint. It moves into lotus, water lily and floating leaf structures, then follows pods, capsules, roots and detached seeds. The final section considers the effects of rain: a collapsed hydrangea edge, a wet petal fold, clinging sepals, a pressed fern and a softened poppy surface.

Its four essays are At the Water’s Edge, The Architecture of Floating Leaves, Seeds, Roots and What Lies Beneath and What Rain Changes.

Volume II: Night Flowers & Pale Thread

The second volume brings jasmine, evening primrose, honeysuckle and moonflower into an evening garden. Close studies of cereus, datura, nicotiana and yucca examine petals, bells and floral centres. Pale-thread leaf veins and seed traces explore contrast on deep grounds, before larger compositions combine water leaves and night blooms.

The essays are The Garden at Dusk, Inside a Night Flower, Light Held in Thread and The Space Between Leaf and Bloom.

From Drawing to Textile

Read the A page for the main contour, the order of overlaps and the internal divisions of a botanical surface. Then turn to its B interpretation to see how direction, density and relief can distinguish a vein, a folded rim or a smaller supporting stem. The paired format keeps those decisions easy to compare without placing the two artworks on one page.
