The nightjar and two moths cross the same clearing at different angles. This digital embroidery pattern includes white feather patches, separate moth antennae and legs, oak leaves and a diagonal log below the open flight.
Stitch direction and shading
The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include fine split, short satin seeds, divided turning long-and-short.
Cloth and thread choices
Suggested fabric: deep midnight-blue linen. The palette proposes 12 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
The scene in detail
Nightjar Across the Moth Dust Clearing brings two scales of flight into one night scene. Keep the bird's pale patches inside the feather fields, then work each moth separately before finishing the finer antennae and log detail.
Are the two moths identical?
They sit at different angles and have separate wing systems. Their bodies, antennae and visible legs give the smaller forms their own direction beside the nightjar.
