A fine crest and trailing legs extend the lapwing's angled flight over wet furrows. This PDF embroidery pattern follows both winding channels, keeping their reflections and soil banks distinct beneath the wing fans.

Canvas dimensions and printing

Artwork canvas: 300 x 232 mm, landscape, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.

Cloth and thread choices

Suggested fabric: warm grey linen. The palette proposes 16 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.

The scene in detail

Lapwing Over the Wet Furrow contrasts airborne feather movement with the slower curves of shallow water. Keep the trailing legs separated, shape the crest with secured fine lines, and let the furrow reflections stay horizontal.

Are the water channels fully filled?

The two channels remain open within the stitched banks and reflections. Visible ground between these forms is part of the composition, not an area that needs extra fill.

Stitch direction and shading

The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include fine split and blade fill, split and fine couching, curved long-and-short.
