Reading the composition
Hoopoe Under the Raised Chestnut Fan gives crest, leaf and burr three different kinds of texture. Keep the fan's spaces open, shade the burrs with secured cotton, and let the long curved beak remain a clean line.
The suggested palette
Suggested fabric: muted teal linen. The palette proposes 15 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
Is the crest a single solid fan?
It is made from separate, unequal shafts with black tips. Preserve the gaps between them when following the pattern instead of joining the crest into one filled shape.
