A broad bill and two split cherry-stone halves belong to the same hawfinch scene. The PDF hand embroidery pattern connects those details with a diagonal branch, warm facial shading and two turning leaves.
Working through the thread map
The guide maps 13 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include broken stem and short straight, lobe-specific long-and-short, curved fill and fine couching.
The suggested palette
Suggested fabric: muted pale blue-grey linen. The palette proposes 15 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
What are the two small forms below the bird?
They are the halves of a cracked cherry stone. Keep their curved surfaces separate from the branch and the surrounding leaves when reading the transfer.

Reading the composition
Hawfinch at the Cracked Cherry Stone centres on a substantial bill and a compact woodland pose. Its restrained ground leaves room to read the head markings, while the separate stone halves introduce a quieter task in the lower composition.
Preparing the transfer
Artwork canvas: 232 x 300 mm, portrait, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.
