The curlew's long bill joins the shallow-water scene at a small tidal ripple. This digital embroidery pattern places three unequal kelp fronds alongside it, with exposed plum ground between the feeding bird and the shore forms.

Choosing the ground fabric

Suggested fabric: deep plum linen. The palette proposes 15 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.

Scale and fabric planning

  • 300 x 232 mm landscape artwork canvas, including open background
  • A3 transfer PDF: print at Actual Size / 100% and verify the 50 mm control bar
  • The Stitch Guide has US Letter pages; its previews are reduced
  • Canvas measurements do not specify the size of a finished object

Does this design include a separate moon motif?

The working scene is the curlew, tidal pool and kelp. The poetic study title does not add a moon shape to the supplied linework.

Included with this design

  • 16-page design-specific Stitch Guide PDF with region key, DMC palette and recommended sequence
  • Full-size A3 transfer PDF and matching SVG
  • White and transparent 600 dpi linework PNGs
  • Colour reference JPG and thread-and-region recipe CSV
  • Hand Embroidery Stitch Sampler, Essential Needlework Handbook PDF
  • READ_ME instructions

From outlines to shaded surfaces

The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include broken horizontal and fine curved split, fine split and couching, broken horizontal and fine split.

The design on cloth

Curlew Under the Long Tide Moon uses open cloth and low water reflections to give the feeding bird room. Shape the full curved bill before the smallest ripples, then work each kelp frond in its own turning direction.
