Winter buds and a bullfinch's coral breast share warm colour across an otherwise bare branch. Download the embroidery pattern for the six buds, two dry leaves and the bird's black-to-grey feather transitions.

Feathers, contours and small details

The guide maps 13 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include broken stem and short straight, curved long-and-short, lobe-specific long-and-short.

Placing the full design

Artwork canvas: 232 x 300 mm, portrait, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.

Bird and setting

Bullfinch Under the Winter Buds puts the season's smallest signs of growth beside a strongly coloured bird. Work the branch and six separate buds, then build the dark wing and coral belly as distinct shaded surfaces.

The package contains the 16-page Stitch Guide PDF, a full-size A3 transfer PDF, SVG linework, white and transparent 600 dpi linework PNGs, a colour reference JPG, the thread-and-region CSV, READ_ME instructions and the Hand Embroidery Stitch Sampler, Essential Needlework Handbook PDF.

Materials to prepare

Suggested fabric: muted blue linen. The palette proposes 19 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.

Is this a floral or a winter-branch design?

The branch carries six closed buds and two hanging dry leaves. It is a winter setting rather than a cluster of open flowers.
