A broken banana blade reveals the ground above a crested turaco. The PDF embroidery pattern keeps the full blue tail, diagonal stalk and lower sheath strips, with long leaf ribs alongside the bird's feather fields.
The design on cloth
Turaco Beneath the Banana Rib Fan treats tropical foliage as a set of distinct folded surfaces. Work around the blade's open splits, keep the blue tail complete, and preserve each stalk crossing as the bird settles onto its perch.
Choosing the ground fabric
Suggested fabric: deep plum linen. The palette proposes 20 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
From outlines to shaded surfaces
The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include lengthwise long-and-short, fine split edges, fine split and short straight.
Scale and fabric planning
- 232 x 300 mm portrait artwork canvas, including open background
- A3 transfer PDF: print at Actual Size / 100% and verify the 50 mm control bar
- The Stitch Guide has US Letter pages; its previews are reduced
- Canvas measurements do not specify the size of a finished object
Are the missing banana-leaf sections accidental gaps?
They belong to the design. The visible ground between the split sections is part of the leaf structure and should not be filled in to make a solid blade.
