The puffin's segmented bill is a small colour study within a larger rock-and-flower scene. Download the embroidery pattern for orange feet, pale breast fields and five sea-pink heads lifted on narrow thrift stems.
Materials to prepare
Suggested fabric: deep blue linen. The palette proposes 24 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
Placing the full design
Artwork canvas: 232 x 300 mm, portrait, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.
Bird and setting
Puffin at the Sea Pink Ledge brings a familiar seabird into a close coastal setting. Work the rock facets and separate flower heads before turning to the pale mask, broad bill and two complete webbed feet.
Feathers, contours and small details
The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include split and blade-half shaded fill, directional short fill and split, curved long-and-short.
What botanical detail is included beside the puffin?
Five thrift flower heads rise from narrow stems and folded blades. They sit beside the ledge rather than becoming a decorative flower border around the bird.
