The moorhen lifts a foot beside a round lily pad and a leaf reduced to ribs. In this PDF embroidery pattern, the skeletal lines stay over intact fabric, leaving the ground visible between them.
Canvas dimensions and printing
Artwork canvas: 300 x 232 mm, landscape, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.
Is the skeletal lily leaf cutwork?
No. Secured stitched ribs form the skeleton over intact cloth. The gaps between the ribs reveal the ground without requiring cutwork or a separate lace insert.
Cloth and thread choices
Suggested fabric: warm mushroom linen. The palette proposes 18 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
Stitch direction and shading
The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include radial long-and-short, fine split and couching, curved long-and-short.
The scene in detail
Moorhen Along the Lily Rib Passage moves between solid leaf planes and a much finer rib structure. Keep the lifted foot free of the water field, then use the red shield and yellow bill tip as compact facial accents.
