The chough carries a curved red bill above three separate summit grass clumps. This PDF hand embroidery pattern follows the dark spread wings and tucked red feet, with angular rock planes beneath the open flight.
A closer look at the motif
Chough at the Red Summit Flag uses the red bill as a focal mark within a dark flying silhouette. Follow each wing separately, then work the rock facets and three grass systems without losing their open intervals.
The stitch recipes
The guide maps 12 working regions with local stitch direction, strand count and DMC colour recipes. Use the region key and recommended sequence to follow the overlaps and changes in shading. Mapped techniques include fine split, faceted long-and-short, fine split stitch.
Before tracing the pattern
Artwork canvas: 300 x 232 mm, landscape, including the open background areas. Print the separate A3 transfer at Actual Size / 100% and check the 50 mm control bar. Guide previews are reduced. These are canvas dimensions, not a finished hoop, cushion or bag size. The Stitch Guide itself uses US Letter pages.
Linen and colour planning
Suggested fabric: muted rust linen. The palette proposes 18 DMC shades for stranded cotton. Supply your own needles, hoop or frame and a transfer method suitable for the cloth. Test the transfer and physical thread colours on a small swatch first.
Are the three grass clumps one continuous patch?
Each has a separate root attachment and blade group. Keep the gaps between them so the summit stays lighter in texture than the larger feather fans above.
